linux - backtrack 5 wont boot -

first off, sorry english, not good.

i have toshiba satellite c885d running windows 8.1. have lexar 4 gigabyte usb flashdrive. says on back: ljds50-4gb. used linuxlive usb creator , backtrack 5 r3 gnome 32 bit. downloaded iso backtrack-linux.org.

when put usb computer, hold f12, , power on, takes me boot menu, gives me 4 options boot from. after each one, there little bit of text. except after "usb" blank. , @ bottom 2 more options, 1 taking menu can access pressing f2 durring startup.

if hit enter when usb selected, takes me black screen says 2 words (something checking usb, forgot. put in edit contain picture , exact text.) after 2 seconds, says failed, , launches windows. please please please me out. tried researching solution problem, none of worked. have run backtrack vm thingy linuxlive has of usb stuff, , works fine, slow, have many windows processes running @ same time. if can diagnose me problem, awesome. if can give me solution, stupendous.

ok, after discussion in question comments suspect problem in install image. if can't see grub menu unable enter bootloader on usb drive. might several things causing problem common denominator - uefi:

  1. you have written install image incorrectly , uefi not recognizing it.
  2. you have written install image correctly, image not capable run on uefi - see discussion here.

anyway 100% way make backtrack of current linux distros work on uefi turn uefi legacy mode (bios), though have unninstall windows 8 ;-)

i not give lot of hopes because backtrack 5 based on ubuntu 10.04 way old - earliest ubuntu supporting uefi 12.04.

i can recommend few things might help:

  1. erase usb flash drive , write backtrack image again, unetbootin. there official tutorial that.
  2. do not try install backtrack 5 if don't know grub is. can install latest ubuntu can run on uefi secureboot (not sure it's easy) , enjoy of tools backtrack repositories.
